Want to leave the best first impression...use this tip

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Like bees to honey, you know what our brains crave?

It's simple.

Novelty.

Novelty is the secret ingredient that stimulates our memory and turns on pleasure centers in our brain.

Novelty floods us with dopamine and makes us feel happy. It's why we remember the beautiful pale green dress you wore to prom, or the exact spot on the road trip where you got the flat tire, or those delicious little tostadas you found in that cute town near the border.

Novelty is what first impressions are made of.

"In one study published in the journal Neuron, researchers showed participants a series of images that were mostly very similar and commonplace: ordinary landscapes, interiors, and faces. Then, they randomly threw in an “oddball” image, something that was unexpected and out of the ordinary. Observing which areas of the subjects’ brains were activated during the experiment, they found that the “pleasure centers” of the brain, located mainly in the midbrain, were activated when the oddball appeared, resulting in a flood of dopamine throughout the brain."

Why does novelty matter if you're a hybrid professional?

If you've been following me, you've heard me preach about creating a hybrid title to describe your hybridity.

A hybrid title is what you call yourself in your career since hybrid professionals defy labels and conventional job titles.

"Why do I need a hybrid title, Sarabeth?"

Because...

Hybrid titles are NOVEL. Hybrid titles help you stand out, and hybrid titles are memorable.

Hybrid titles literally cause the brain of the other person to light up, get curious, sense pleasure, and feel happy!

Who doesn't want to have that effect on someone?

A hybrid title might be:

  • Weaver of Wonder

  • Spiritual Spark Plug

  • Joyful Nurturer

  • Chaos Wrangler

  • or Creative Disruptor. (All legit titles btw that my clients or new hybrid friends are using).

Hybrid titles are one-of-a-kind, out-of-the-box, unconventional, non-generic titles.

I encourage people to create a hybrid title because IT LEAVES A LASTING FIRST IMPRESSION.

Whether the other person laughs or smiles when you introduce yourself, or they read your hybrid title on LinkedIn, you know you've activated an important part of their brain.

When you break the monotony of what other people expect to hear (ie traditional job titles), you actually become more memorable to them.

Again, hybridity is your asset.
