I started studying professional identity through formal research to restart my career and understand who I was.

Join Dr. Sarabeth Berk Bickerton for a cohort-based experience. This is a 3 session, 5.5 hour intensive and personalized workshop with a small cohort of students. You’ll find this interactive workshop deeply reflective about your professional identity and highly practical.
We'll meet for three, 1.5 hours sessions (these will be recorded) for live demos, lessons, and collaborative brainstorming. You’ll also receive a 1 hour private 1:1 session with Sarabeth to be scheduled during the group course.

What is a hybrid professional?
A person who has multiple work identities and integrates them to work at the intersection. The intersection is their truest professional identity. Hybrids can have both general knowledge and depth of knowledge across different domains. When hybrids integrate their identities together, that’s where their truest expertise is formed.
How will this workshop help my personal brand?
A personal brand is a picture of you, how you see yourself and how others see you. Doing a deep dive into your professional identity unlocks all kinds of important knowledge about yourself along with keywords that are unique to you. For instance, you might realize you’re talented at balancing tension on teams, and suddenly you see that your personal brand is about being the tension balancer. Doing this workshop helps you see that picture more clearly and articulate it better than ever.

Isn’t everyone a hybrid professional?
That’s like saying, isn’t everyone an expert? The answer is no. There are three types of professional identity people have: singularity, multiplicity, and hybridity. People who integrate their professional identities together are hybrids and they possess different qualities than experts or generalists. Not everyone is a hybrid, yet people can learn to develop their hybridity.

What is a hybrid title?
A hybrid title is the name you give your hybrid professional identity. It represents who you are and what you call yourself at the intersections of your top professional identities. This is meant to be a unique title that no one else has, that people haven’t heard of before and that authentically represents the full you. When you find this title, it frames the entire picture of you, and how you define your hybrid title becomes your personal brand.
What if nobody understands my hybrid title?
It’s not recommended to use your hybrid title without context because otherwise it won’t make sense. The hybrid professional identity elevator pitch is a specific framework you’ll learn to help you with this. It’s been tested to be effective. There are three parts you need to use when you introduce yourself. If you only use your hybrid title, you will sound funny, and people won’t get it. There’s an art to how you can use your hybrid title.
